Hildegard von Bingen

Saint Hildegard of Bingen was a medieval Abbess who wrote a range of religious texts that represent the struggle between good and evil. She also wrote many informative guides about nature and healing, researching the healing uses of over 280 plants in her two medical texts “Liber simplicis medicinae” and “Liber compositae medicinae”.

Overall, Hildegard composed 77 works (including ‘Ordo Virtutum’, which contains 69 compositions in the style of the late Gregorian chant), and she often used ‘modes’ (a form of altered scales) in her compositions.
