Method to making notes in your private music lessons

I have been having my private music lessons (on harp) online for the past 3 months. Me and my sister came up with the most efficient step by step guide to make your week as productive as possible;

  1. Today’s date, just to keep organised

2. Any notices your teacher tells you about, e.g. any videos you could watch recommend by your teacher

3. Your warm up comments, usually scales and arpeggios etc.

I write my technical improvements and the metronome markings I need to work towards.

4. Pieces:

You can see that I wrote out a rhythmic exercise – it was for a tango
  • the metronome mark you need to work up to
  • bars you need to work on – and how to improve
  • diagram of rhythms
  • context of the piece you should research

5. Reminder when you need to send a recording to your teacher – if applicable

My teacher often tells me to send a video/sound recording so that they can listen to me playing at a better quality than the video in my lesson.

6. My next lesson time and date

Remember, music teachers have had to change some of their lesson times. So, I write down when my next lesson will be, time and date.
